Kotte-Betta is the third highest peak in Coorg district after Tadiandamol and Brahmagiri. It is located 15 km from Coorg in Hattihole region. The name means “Fort Hill”. There’s a temple on top of the peak and It is believed that the Pandava brothers spent some time here during their period of exile. The climate in the region is pleasant, making it a wonderful summer getaway. The trek offers various types of trails and includes a final stretch of rock patches which adds up on to the adventure. All along the way, you’ll hear the gush of water and the chirping of the birds – acknowledging the fact that you’re far far away from the hustle of your daily routines.

DAY 0: Start from Chennai.
Day 1: Freshup in Homestay – Trekking to Kotte-Betta peak
Day 2: Visit Buddist Monastery.
Day 3: Return to Chennai
Overnight Journey from Chennai. Kotte-betta base is 600kms long drive, during which a brief introduction to what you can expect during the trek will be given.
You will also be informed about the dos and don’ts, followed by playful icebreaker sessions, in an effort to make everyone in the gang – ‘hygge’. 😉 Our trekkers are encouraged to have light food and enjoy a delightful travel.
Travelling in the Western Ghats in the morning has its own beauty. Once we reach our homestay, we will refresh, pitch tents and comfortably accommodate ourselves.
Then begins the trek towards the peak. The initial stretch is a jeep trail for another 3 km which is followed by the dense forest, having of few streams visible during the monsoons. Once you get out of the dense forest patch, the first view of the peak presents itself. The gradually increasing steepness provides you with the most mesmerizing view of the Mandalpatti Peak to the left and the beautiful town of Somwarpet to the right.
The final stretch of the trek includes a rock patch in which you have to ridge walk to the peak, with the wind blowing right onto your face all along. Now that’s a wonderful feeling and an instant mood-lifter. Also, there’s a small temple on the top. After Spending some time in the peak start descending back before it gets dark. On reaching our homestay, we satisfy our tummy with some tasty food.
The second day we visit the Buddist Monastery located in Bylakuppe. This Temple is not only has a beautiful architecture to sightsee but is also a place that gives you calm and enlightenment.
Later that day, we start back to Chennai with Self-Sponsored dinner on our way.
